I had been bouncing between VS Code and neovim, and when I came across Zed, I was very attracted to the Vim motions and how fast it was. I liked the more minimal design as well.

Before Zed, I was using the pretty classic VS Code, but I was a little annoyed that it was getting slow. So I had played around with neovim and enjoyed the Vim bindings a lot. Then a colleague showed me Zed, and I was very excited by its speed; everything was fast and snappy. And then the multibuffer and multi-cursors—that’s my favorite part of the editor.

I saw one of your videos online, and when I tried it, it was so much snappier. I couldn’t believe I had been living without it. What made me fully stick with Zed was when the Debugger was added. Zed then became my main editor.

Over my career, I’ve used a lot of IDEs. When Zed came along, it was quite refreshing because it was a clean slate from all the other things that had been done; you could tell it was starting with a better foundation. The Zed editor was much faster than everything I was using before.

Zed came up, and I think, as a designer, the first thing that jumped out to me was that I really liked the look of it: very minimal and clean. And I liked the speed of it, too. It’s such a killer feature to just open a folder and… it’s loaded. Things felt pretty well-designed and intuitive; it was a pretty easy transition for me.

When I installed Zed, I was impressed by its snappiness, performance, and startup time. Everything felt very fast, and I enjoyed having Vim mode, where I find the experience in Zed quite nice.
