Software Overview
The downloadable Zed editor is open source software, governed by the open source licenses listed below, not by Zed's Terms of Service. The Terms of Service govern your use of the hosted SaaS Service that Zed Industries operates.
Source code
The source for Zed is published at github.com/zed-industries/zed.
Licenses
Different portions of the Software are released under different open source licenses:
- GNU General Public License v3.0 — the main Zed editor.
- Apache License 2.0 — components intended for reuse, such as
gpui. - GNU Affero General Public License v3.0 — components designed to run as a network service, such as
collab.
Each file in the source tree indicates the license under which it is distributed.
Third-party dependencies
The Software includes third-party open source components. See Attributions for the list, or open Help → View Dependency Licenses inside Zed for the full license text of each dependency.

Trademarks
The open source licenses above grant rights in the source code. They do not grant rights in Zed Industries' trademarks, names, or logos, including "Zed" and the Zed logo. For permitted uses, see the brand guidelines.
