Agentic Editing

Support for autonomous AI-driven edits, with a refreshed Assistant Panel, better MCP integration, and more.

Last year, we introduced our first big package of AI-related features. Ever since, the releases have been incremental and haven't deeply changed the underlying paradigm. Now, we're excited to announce that we're getting closer to releasing a new, refreshed Assistant Panel with agentic editing capabilities.

With this upcoming release, Zed will be able to search your codebase and autonomously perform edits. You'll have the ability to review these changes in a special, editable multibuffer, where you can choose to keep the AI-generated changes or revert them. Additionally, you can roll back to specific checkpoints created throughout your conversation with the assistant.

Beyond these features, we're also introducing improved support for the Model Context Protocol (MCP), agent profiles, .rules files, and more.

We're thrilled to begin sharing this with you and look forward to your feedback. While there's still much to build and polish, we've heard your requests for these features and believe now is the right time to start rolling them out.

We'll add folks to the beta slowly, and it should run for a few weeks.
